Let’s face it, all cannabis products have weirdly complex names that make the good herb sound complex. Adding to this line of complexity is another product that you might not have heard about as much as you have heard about Delta 8 and 9 THC. It is called THC-O and Oh! It is potent!
THC-O Acetate is an artificial cannabis compound made by using pure hemp-obtained THC and subjecting it to laboratory conditions and chemicals in order to alter its structure. In the final step, of this mixture, acetic anhydride is added which reacts with the Delta 8 THC, creating the final product which is THC-O
So… you can make it home?
An absolute, overwhelming NO. Please do not attempt to synthesize THC-O at home or at any laboratory which is not cleared for complex research. This chemical process requires expert attention and immense caution. It can’t be worked out by someone who is not trained in dealing with the chemicals involved. If done by an untrained professional, it can lead to death or the risk of serious injury.
Acetic anhydride, the main chemical involved, is highly inflammable and is colorless and odorless. If there is a leak, it can not be detected unless there are highly sophisticated instruments present in the laboratory.
The whole reaction is done at high temperatures which can’t be safely reached anywhere but in a specially designed laboratory. Even in laboratories this reaction is conducted in vacuum hoods and has no exposure to humans. Imagine that! Let’s not try to recreate Breaking Bad here.
