Success stories often begin with a moment of realization, a turning point when someone decides to stop watching opportunities pass by and start acting on them. For Hayson Tasher Sr., that moment came when he began to truly understand a simple but powerful truth: opportunity is always present, but only those who take action benefit from it.
Based in the United States, Tasher’s journey reflects a lifetime of observing how time moves quickly and how reinvesting in oneself can change the course of a life. His story, captured in the theme “Hayson Tasher’s Turning Point,” is not just about entrepreneurship but about recognizing opportunities before they disappear.
Growing Up Around Opportunity
Looking back, Tasher realizes that opportunity had always surrounded him. He attended the same high school as legendary four-time professional baseball champion Darryl Strawberry. As a teenager, Tasher would sometimes run into Strawberry while skipping class. One memorable moment stands out: after Tasher asked him for money, the baseball star casually handed him five dollars.
At the time, it seemed like a small interaction. But years later, Tasher reflects on it as an example of how proximity to greatness often exists in everyday life.
He himself was involved in sports. Tasher played Little League baseball and started at second base, showing promise as a young athlete. Yet like many teenagers, he admits he got caught up in the “new year, new me” mentality, making plans but not always following through.
“Opportunity was all around,” Tasher says when reflecting on that stage of his life. “There was no excuse for me. Time stops for no one. You look up, and suddenly ten years have passed.”
He also grew up alongside future stars. Tasher attended high school with WNBA legends Lisa Leslie and Tina Thompson. During the late 1980s and early 1990s, he even shared the same piano teacher, Becky, who worked with the R&B group The Boys.
For Tasher, these experiences reinforced one lesson: opportunities often exist right next to us but the real question is whether we take action.
The Turning Point
The defining turning point in Tasher’s life came during his time working in the security industry. While employed at a security firm, he began to notice something important: he believed he had more to offer than the position he held.
Instead of ignoring that realization, Tasher acted on it.
“I observed that I had more to offer than the security firm I was working for,” he explains. “Thank God I knew my worth and seized the opportunity to build my brand.”
That decision led to the creation of Old Patrolman Guard Services (OLDPGS), a company built on reliability, professionalism, and hands-on leadership.
Building a Security Brand
Today, Old Patrolman Guard Services provides a range of security solutions designed to help businesses and communities maintain safety and order. The company’s services include:
- Armed and unarmed uniformed security guards
- Alarm response services
- Investigations
- Free security consulting
Operating under the guiding philosophy “Security you can count on” and “Dedicated to a safe and secure environment,” Tasher has built his brand around accountability and reliability.
One factor that strongly differentiates him from many competitors is his leadership style. Unlike many security company owners who remain behind the scenes, Tasher chooses to remain actively involved in field operations.
“The majority of owners do not participate in field security details or office duties,” he says. “But I’m still in the field by choice. It’s my vision and my brand, so why not?”
Inspired by Industry Pioneers
While building his own company, Tasher has also looked toward historic security organizations that helped shape the industry in the United States. Among the brands he admires most are Pinkerton and Wells Fargo, both of which played early roles in American security and investigative work.
Their legacy, he says, paved the way for modern private security services and continues to inspire new entrepreneurs entering the field.
A Vision Beyond Security Services
Looking toward the future, Tasher’s ambitions extend beyond traditional security operations. His long-term vision for the OLD PATROLMAN brand includes expanding into retail and training.
He hopes to open retail locations offering OLD PATROLMAN-branded tactical wear, boots, firearms, and security equipment, along with dedicated security training centers designed to prepare the next generation of professionals.
These expansions, he believes, will allow the brand to become more than just a service provider, it will become a complete ecosystem supporting safety, training, and professional development.
The Lesson: Opportunity Is Always Present
For Tasher, the most important message he hopes to share is simple: opportunity never stops appearing.
“Opportunity is key,” he says.
His life story, from growing up around future sports legends to launching Old Patrolman Guard Services, serves as a reminder that success often begins with awareness.
Opportunities, he believes, constantly appear in everyone’s life.
The real question is whether we recognize them and whether we act before time passes us by.
