In Path of Exile, crafting can be a lucrative way to make PoE currency. In a previous guide, we discussed using methods like affinities, POE Ninja, and spreadsheets to find profitable items to craft. However, if you’re not confident in your abilities or unwilling to put in the necessary work, there is a third method available. Although I don’t personally agree with this method and its ethical implications, I will share it with you for informational purposes. Please exercise caution and use this method responsibly.
Method: Stalking or Espionage
One way to find profitable items to craft involves gathering information from successful players and applying it to your own crafting endeavors. On the Path of Exile trade website, there is a feature called “seller account” that allows you to view all the items listed by a specific player. While I believe this feature should not exist, it is accessible to the public, enabling you to explore other players’ listings and strategies. Let’s explore how you can make use of this feature.
Step 1: Accessing Seller Accounts
Navigate to the trade website and find the “bulk item exchange” section. Suppose you’re interested in finding players who have many Divine Orbs and are looking to buy Mirrors of Kalandra (just as an example). Look for the first player who has a substantial amount of Divines listed. Click on their name to access their profile. You can now copy their profile name for further use.
Step 2: Exploring Listings
Return to the trade website and go to the “search listed items” section. Enter the account name of the player you copied earlier. This will display all the items they have listed for sale. It’s worth noting that players who engage in this method often want to protect their real identity and keep their crafting methods secret. This is why they create separate accounts to sell items.
Step 3: Refining Your Search
To narrow down your search for profitable crafting items, you can customize the search parameters. For instance, you can set a minimum requirement, such as only showing items worth 200 Chaos Orbs or more. Additionally, you can filter by the time the items were listed, focusing on those listed within the past week. This helps eliminate items that have been listed for a long time without selling.
Step 4: Finding Profitable Crafting Opportunities
To find items specifically for crafting, select the “any non-unique” rarity and search for Divine Orbs. Set a maximum value, such as seven Divines, to avoid displaying excessively expensive crafts. You can also search for specific crafted modifiers like “cluster jewels” if that’s your area of interest. Alternatively, leave the crafted modifiers field empty to find profitable crafts in general.
Step 5: Sorting and Analyzing Results
Sort the search results by the highest price to identify potentially valuable crafts. Look for similarities among the items listed by the player. This is crucial in determining which crafts are more likely to be profitable. Focus on items that repeat themselves or have similar modifiers. This indicates a pattern in the player’s crafting strategy.
Step 6: Evaluating Potential Crafts
Once you’ve found items with similar crafting patterns, you can investigate their profitability. Copy the account name of the player who listed the items and replace it in the search field. Adjust the search parameters, such as setting a maximum value or time frame, to refine the results further. Analyze the items listed by the player and compare their potential profitability.
Step 7: Testing the Market
To determine if a craft is truly profitable, you need to test the market. Take, for example, a pair of gloves listed by a player. Analyze the modifiers, such as added damage, maximum life, and life regeneration per second. Research the market prices for gloves with similar modifiers. This will give you an idea of whether the craft is worth pursuing.
Conclusion:
While the method of stalking or espionage is available for finding profitable items to craft in Path of Exile, it’s important to approach it with caution and respect for others’ privacy. Keep in mind that this method may not always yield profitable results, as player strategies can vary and certain crafts may be more niche or experimental. Use the information gathered from this method as a starting point and always test the market to confirm the viability of a craft before investing your resources.
