Inadvertently costing Mitchell Starc a remarkable piece of cricket history, Glenn Maxwell lost a crucial catch during Australia’s triumph against Zimbabwe in the second One-Day International.

On Wednesday in Townsville, Starc finished with 3-24 from eight overs as Australia knocked Zimbabwe out for just 96, the lowest score recorded by an African country against the Australians.

Who are Glenn Maxwell and Mitchell Starc?

Glenn James Maxwell, an Australian professional cricketer who was born on October 14, 1988, competes for Australia in Test matches as well as One Day International and Twenty20 International competitions. All-rounder Maxwell bowls off break and bats right-handed.

In domestic cricket in Australia, he plays for Victoria and Melbourne Stars.

In March 2022, Maxwell wed Vini Raman, his longtime partner. Glenn Maxwell and Glenn Maxwell wife got married in traditional Indian style.

On the other hand, Mitchell Aaron Starc, an Australian cricketer who represents both New South Wales and the national side of his country, was born on January 30, 1990.

Starc represents Australia in all three of the major international cricket competitions: Test cricket, One Day Internationals (ODI), and Twenty20 Internationals.

He is a left-arm fast bowler and a middle order left-handed batsman. He is recognised as one of the greatest bowlers in the history of the limited overs format and was the best bowler in ODI cricket in 2015.

Starc proposed to fellow Australian player Alyssa Healy in 2015, and the two were wed on April 15, 2016. Only the third married pair to play Test cricket together is Starc and Healy.

What happened during the match against Zimbabwe?

Despite his outstanding performance, Starc could feel a little unjustly treated because Maxwell missed a legal catch at backward point that would have been his fourth victim.

Starc’s career ODI wicket total has dropped to 199, which is a cruel turn of events.

By taking advantage of Maxwell’s opportunity, Starc would have became the fourth Australian and fastest player in history to amass 200 wickets in one-day internationals.

Fortunately for Maxwell, Starc still had two matches left, so it probably won’t prevent him from breaking the record.

Alongside Starc, leg-spinner Adam Zampa shone with the ball, grabbing 3-21 off only 3.5 overs. Additionally, Cameron Green had a 3-7 off of three.

Zimbabwe was in a lot of trouble at one point after losing all three wickets for only one run off of 20 deliveries.

When dangerman Sikandar Raza was downed for 17, the situation worsened. After Marcus Stoinis took a simple catch on the boundary, Josh Hazlewood (1-16) claimed Raza’s key wicket. He had two maidens in his first three overs.

As Australia’s pacemen bowled at the stumps to keep the run rate at two and a half an over, Raza and Zimbabwe’s top order struggled to gain any momentum at the crease.

Thankfully, Mitchell Starc completed the big milestone at the next match but such a fielding error from a player like Glenn Maxwell was a matter of concern for the other players on the field.
