BERLIN / DHAKA  The Journalistenzentrum Deutschland will send a delegation of journalists to Bangladesh this year to report on the country’s upcoming general elections and ongoing political restructuring. With a population of over 170 million, Bangladesh remains one of the world’s most densely populated states and a significant economic factor in South Asia.

The mission will focus on the work of the current interim government led by Nobel Peace Prize laureate Muhammad Yunus. Since taking office in August 2024, the administration has been tasked with stabilizing the nation and preparing for a return to democratic processes. The delegation will examine the progress of these reforms and the socio-economic conditions in the rapidly growing capital, Dhaka.

Preparations for the mission are already underway. Representatives from the German media associations DPV and bdfj recently met with the Bangladeshi Ambassador in Berlin to discuss logistics and access for the visiting press corps. The meeting served to establish a framework for reporting and to ensure the necessary administrative support from local authorities.

In addition to the electoral process, the trip will cover the country’s economic development. Despite significant growth in recent years, Bangladesh continues to face challenges as one of the lower-income nations in Asia. The research mission aims to provide comprehensive reporting on how the country balances industrial expansion with social and political reform.
