Four Ways to Streamline Your Product Returns Management

Date:

Running a successful business is all about ensuring your customer remains happy. No matter how many sales you make, there’s bound to be a few customers that aren’t happy with the product and would like to request a return.

However, managing the returns is often the most dreaded part of any company’s operations. We’re here to tell you that it doesn’t have to be. You can improve your return management with a series of simple tips and tricks – it doesn’t even have to cost you anything. Keep reading to learn more…

Write Accurate Product Descriptions

If the description doesn’t match the product, you’re going to see a high volume of returns. This is why it’s essential that you write those descriptions as accurately as possible.

If you have a dress that tends to fit looser than the stated size, make sure to let your customers know. This way, they will be more likely to purchase the correct size and less likely to send it back.

Clearly State Your Return Policy

Another way to avoid unnecessary returns is by clearly stating your return policy. Most customers assume they have a 30 day return window on all items. If this is not the case, it’s up to you to let them know.

You could choose to increase the window of your returns policy up to 60 or even 90 days. Many customers may feel like they have more time to think about their purchase and decide to keep the item.

Keep an Eye on Underperforming Products

You may notice you have a certain product that is being returned far more than others. It could be that the product size doesn’t fit adequately or the quality is sub-par. Find what items are underperforming and make changes to improve the return rate.

If you have a large repertoire of products and you can’t seem to monitor which are underperforming, we recommend you invest in returns management software. This tool will provide valuable insight as to why customers are returning products and help you increase customer satisfaction.

Don’t Make The Return Process Impossible

Remember, an overwhelming majority of customers that make a return are likely to make another purchase in the future. However, if you make it impossible to return an item, it’s likely that they will be frustrated and refuse to do business with you again.

Plus, an unhappy customer could lead to negative reviews and deter other potential customers from making a purchase. Making the returns policy as easy and transparent as possible helps increase trust in your brand.

Without happy customers, you risk your reputation being tarnished. This is why it’s imperative that you offer your customers an easy way to return their products. Not only this, but you can make several changes to business that will reduce the number of returns in general. If you’re not sure what areas of your return policy and management need attention, it never hurts to ask your customers directly.
