Five Different Types of Horses

Horses have always been one of man’s most beneficial animals. The species has survived throughout history. They were used as the transport of soldiers and kings in the past. Most wild horses of the mountains have been domesticated in the present world.

Currently, there are various horses that are used for sporting purposes, entertainment such as in a circus, farming and agriculture. People of affluence tend to keep horses as pets and are even taught how to ride horse at a young age. Horses can fall into various categories. I have outlined the 5 different types of horses which exists today:

1.      Warm-blood

This type of horse is tall and contains a mid-range weight with an athletic body structure. Making the horse ideal for sporting events. For example, warm-blood horses tend to well show jumping, dressage or at competitions. The breed can have its own unique look and personality.

2.      Light

3.      Drafts

The term draft roughly translates to haul. The horses tend to be more on the heavier and larger side as they are typically used to carry out hard-work. The versatile horse is utilized for activities such as ploughing and hauling heavy carriages. They are tall and muscular creatures with a calm and friendly disposition, making them easier to train. 4.      Small

The horses of this kind truly live up to its category’s name. Despite the argument that ponies and small horses seem to be the same, they are separate because of the minor difference in numbers. For instance, a pony weighs around 45 kg to 362 kg and a small horse only weighs a shocking 232 kg to 362 kg. There are only a limited number of horses that fall under this type. 5.      Ponies

Ponies are usually seen as a class of their own, as ponies seem to be separated from horses. The breed needs to be lower than 14.2 hands to be considered a pony. Most ponies also have more intense manes and thicker tails, shorter legs and thicker necks compared to horses.
