Finding The Right Material

We know picking your gear is a personal thing. Everyone feels that attachment to their personal bong, that’s why making sure you pick the perfect material for you is so important. It can be overwhelming when it comes time to pick. This is due to the sheer variety on the market. If you’re new to the game it’s often hard to know what’s good and what’s not so great. From ceramic bongs, to acrylic, silicone, and the trusty glass, it’s hard to know where to start or spend.

Glass Bongs

We’ve put together a list of four of the most common materials on the market. This outline of some of the characteristics of each should make your purchase easier and your smoke more enjoyable.

Acrylic

This is probably the cheapest bong you’ll get your hands on. While acrylics do the job, they aren’t something you’re likely to have for a while. Being cheap however, does make these easy to replace. The material itself is not the most durable so breakage is often a problem. In terms of smoke safety, it’s not always easy to guarantee the level of safety in the materials used as most acrylic bongs are made overseas. The nature of the material does affect the flavour too. If you’re looking for something temporary and easy, this is it, however if you’re looking for something smoother, better flavoured, safer and long lasting, another material might suit you better.

Silicone

Silicone is one of the more recent developments in this technology. The best thing about it is it is pretty much unbreakable. The most durable of materials you can find on the market, these bongs have a pretty much lifetime guarantee. They’re also dishwasher safe which makes cleaning easier than ever. However, in regards to taste silicone is often used with a metal bowl which can taint flavour. All silicone used is safe to smoke out of so safety is not an issue with these bongs either. If you’re looking for something long lasting, often a little smaller and portable, then silicone could be the one for you.

Ceramic

This one is the vinyl records of bongs. The oldest and original technology. Ceramic has been used for decades as ancient technology so the art of it has pretty much been perfected. Ceramics will lend themselves to a super smooth smoke with great flavour too. They’re durable and long lasting and actually less sensitive to temperature changes than glass bongs. They may be a little more expensive and harder to accessorise but the beauty and sentimentality of a smooth ceramic bong is definitely worth the money.

Glass

By far the most popular and iconic material on the market. You’ll find the most variety in design, size, attachments and so on when it comes to glass. They’re affordable, easy to use, and one of the smoothest smokes you’ll get. They deliver a pure flavour too. Glass is easy to customise too, so this is one you’ll wanna keep for life. We also love the transparency of glass. You’ll know exactly when your glass bongs needs a clean!
