Cloudname is a new domain name system (DNS) provider, with a unique twist: the core of the system is created from clouds. It’s the perfect choice for businesses who need a more secure and stable domain name system (DNS). The company has partnered with CDN services, and has put an emphasis on privacy, saying that the system is built from clouds, not from your computer’s files.
So you might ask what’s so great about this company, that’s willing to fork out big money on what appears to be a gimmick. Well, there are a lot of services that are more reliable than this, and who are willing to take more responsibility for the content you upload online. Now it appears that Cloudname is the safer choice.
Developing a new solution
The company was formed in 2016 by Gil Gavari and Khushi Yadav, both software engineers, to develop a more secure and private DNS system that required more advanced technology and wasn’t created by users of the open DNS system. “With Cloudname, we want to make the world’s DNS more secure and private. It’s based on a similar architecture to the cloud, which means that everything is on servers, not your hard drives, so you can rest assured that it’s not going to be compromised,” said Gavari.
The team wanted to create a reliable service that operated by relying on data centres which were immune to cyber attacks, and so they built Cloudname around the concept of DNS built on a core made from clouds. The founders said that the core makes the system safe by offering many layers of protection, such as encryption, data placement, and secure communication between the data centre and servers.
Cloudname now has partnerships with a number of vendors to bring to their service cloud caching and other tools such as a customer portal to allow customers to make payments. They also have a risk and security assessment program to understand what the risks are to their system. CloudName customers get protection and full visibility into all their DNS transactions to prove that it is operating correctly.
The company’s system is designed to work as a sort of firewall, protecting customer data from attacks. Even if one of the servers is hit by a cyber attack, the system will automatically take corrective measures.
Oversaturation of the domain name system
This system isn’t new, and many similar services have been developed in the last few years. But the team behind Cloudname feels that their system has enough benefits that it will cause people to switch to Cloudname over those other services. They believe that there are currently too many services like Cloud9 and Name, both of which are similar to Cloudname. However, the other services may prove more lucrative to Cloudname.
“There’s so much competition in the DNS space and a huge number of companies that serve the DNS. So we thought it would be a good idea to break from that and create something unique,” said Gavari.
However, it isn’t the first time that a company has built a cloud based DNS system. In fact, the team behind Cloudname contacted other firms to see if they would partner with them on creating this service, but they weren’t interested. “They didn’t take us seriously at all, which is a great thing,” he explained
