MIAMI (AP) — Gaming and mental health are joining forces through the new “X-Factors” team launched by Egypt Brown and Fight 4 Mental Health.
The esports squad, which competes in NBA 2K tournaments, is using its platform to promote awareness and balance for gamers struggling with anxiety, burnout and social pressures.
“Gaming can be a positive force,” Egypt Brown said. “Our players show that discipline, teamwork and mental focus are just as important in esports as in boxing.”
The team streams matches with live commentary about mental health, aiming to reach young fans where they spend the most time — online.
Experts note that gaming is often stigmatized, but initiatives like the X-Factors highlight its potential. “These programs prove video games can teach coping skills and resilience,” said Dr. Omar Jennings, a sports psychologist.
Egypt said the X-Factors will expand into other titles in the coming months. “We’re here to show that gaming can heal, not just entertain,” he said.
