Effective Ways to Deal with Vertigo

Date:

Excessive amounts of dizziness, feeling as though everything around you is spinning, and having a hard time keeping your balance are all symptoms of what is known as vertigo. Vertigo can be difficult to live with as it impacts many aspects of your daily life. Some side effects of vertigo are nausea and not even being able to get out of bed because your head is spinning so badly. In the wake of this unfavorable condition, there are some effective ways to counteract the impact of vertigo so that you can get on your way to living your life. Don’t let extreme dizziness get you down by following some of these suggestions to help get your balance back again and help the world around you stop spinning.

Lie Down Still and Flat

Bouts of vertigo can average anywhere from a few minutes to a few months. There are severe and mild cases of vertigo, but in either situation, do your best to set yourself for success by taking it easy. Try to ground yourself from the spinning world by finding a dark place to lie down. Darkness will help the impact of vertigo fade as you have nothing to see that could be spinning around due to the condition. Laying down flat and still can help to reduce the impact of the dizzy feeling and help you to feel more grounded so that the impact of vertigo can begin to wear off before you get started doing your tasks while standing up.

Sit Up Slowly and Relax

When you start to feel better and less dizzy while laying down, be sure to sit up as slowly as you can. You do not want your body to be knocked out of the balance you found while laying down by getting up too fast and starting to move on. Take these steps slowly while you begin to sit up and try to relax and find your center with every movement. Try sitting on the edge of your bed or couch to see if you still are feeling the effects of vertigo or if it has worn off. Move your head from side to side carefully as you look around so you don’t induce any more bouts of vertigo by moving too quickly. As you begin to move throughout your day, try to take things slow and relax because stress and anxiety can make these symptoms worse.

See a Physical Therapist

You can’t live your whole life in fear that you will become dizzy again but it is important to keep your movements slow and connected. We all have lives that we need to get back and physical therapy Idaho Falls can help get you back on your way to continue living your life. Physical therapy allows the opportunity to practice your movements in a safe to get you moving while managing the symptoms of vertigo. A physical therapist can teach you exercising and techniques to help keep your vertigo at bay and to aid in minimizing the symptoms of vertigo if you begin to feel the effects of it again. They will give you treatments to help you handle vertigo in an effective way so that it doesn’t continue to control your life. Vertigo can be challenging but there are many resources around you that can help you to feel better so that you do not have to live with these symptoms forever.
