THE THREAT: “IN WINTERKORN’S TIMES, THEY WOULD HAVE GOTTEN RID OF YOU LONG AGO”
December 2019. A manager looks Nikollaj directly in the eyes and says:
“In Winterkorn’s times, they would have gotten rid of you long ago.”
For Nikollaj, it’s clear: That was a clear threat! An allusion to the era of former VW CEO Martin Winterkorn – implying that critics in the company used to be made to disappear.

Nikollaj does what any honest employee must do: He reports the incidents! His report goes to:

His warning: Billions in losses imminent! Management is sleeping!
Dr. Diess’s reply comes the same day – and is positive:
“Thank you for your open feedback. We need a constructive culture of debate.”
