Different Labour laws in Libya

Labour laws of any country are the set of rules and guidelines that address matters related to wages, remuneration, trade unions, industrial relations, employment, individual employment relations, work environment and safety, social security, and welfare of labourers. The Foreign Libyan workforce is required to register with the ministry of labour, and all the employees are prescribed to sign an employment contract which is also registered under the ministry of labour. The current minimum wage set under this law is 450 LYD per month. Two weeks paid leave for marriage and four months ten days paid leave after women worker’s husband death is also granted. Social security legislation only applies to Libyan nationals, though. Maternity leave and laws against unjust removal of female workers due to pregnancy and maternity are also part of this law. The Libyan labour lawprevents the dismissal of workers based on participation in trade unions.
