The story of how Porshay is using custom hair extensions and wigs to empower women begins in her youth. She grew up in foster care, as her mother was a drug addict, and she didn’t meet her father, who was incarcerated, until she was 24 years old. At a young age, Porshay learned to fend for herself more often than not. Homelessness, abuse, and mistreatment were parts of her life, and by the time she was in her twenties, she already had two children.
“I learned very quickly that life was hard, and if I was going to survive, I would have to have an equally hard exterior,” Porshay says. “Somehow, though, I kept a positive outlook on life and kept pouring into others despite some of them not having my best interests at heart.”
Her story might have continued along a path of abuse and unrealized potential except for something Porshay’s mother used to tell her: there is greatness in you, and I dare you to believe it.
“I couldn’t get her words out of my mind, even in my darkest days,” Porshay remembers. “It wasn’t until recently that I started daring myself to believe that yes, I have greatness in me. When I did, that’s when my life began to turn around. I became victorious, not a victim.”
On New Year’s Day 2023, Porshay decided that she no longer needed to be tough. “It was a new year, and I was ready for a new mindset, new thoughts, and a new purpose,” she explains. “It was time to embrace my softness, femininity, and sophistication. I was the woman that I had always wanted to be: elegant, multifaceted, and just a little sassy. Now it was time to bring that freedom to other women through Deluxe Galore.”
Her business is her door to a world she has always wanted to enter: entrepreneurship and empowerment for women. Her family, which includes her husband Prince and their eight children, has been 100% on board, listening to her ideas, giving valuable feedback, and encouraging her every step of the way.
