Delete Instagram account: not as easy as you think it is though

Date:

Instagram is a very popular social platform, and many use it for their social media marketing. Even at that, some still want to get rid of the photo-sharing platform.

Deleting Instagram isn’t as simple and fast as it should be.

Whatever the reason, you’re deleting your Instagram account for, if you will, making an official post saying, “I’m deleting Instagram.”

The next thing to do is to try the two ways below to start.

Deleting your Instagram Account on iOS and Android

Using the app is the simplest way for iPhone users to delete Instagram.

  • Go to your profile.
  • Click the hamburger menu in the top right, and choose Settings.
  • Go to Account, and scroll down to the bottom of the menu. You should see a Delete Account option; tap on it.

It will display a menu asking if you want to deactivate or delete your account.

When you have clicked the Delete account button, a message stating that you can stop the deleting process by a specific date if you log back in will pop up.

  • Press the Continue deleting red account button, and a webpage will open on the app.

Right after you answer a question about why you’re deleting your account and input your password to approve, the deleting process is done.

For Android users, follow the steps above for iOS but note that you may or may not see the Delete Account option. If you do not see the option, resort to the Web.

Deleting Instagram on the Web

If you’re using a browser, follow the process below to delete your account using a computer or phone.

◾Go to Instagram’s special account removal request page, which can be seen here. However, you must input your login details if you’re not logged into Instagram for the web. You might be required to enter your password twice throughout the deleting process, so now’s likely the best time to ensure you know what it is.

◾You should land on a page with a dropdown asking why you want to delete your account.

All links to Instagram’s help center guaranteeing to put your issues in order may be displayed to you. Or you might get a notification message telling you to check which account you’re deleting. It all depends on which option you select.

◾There will be a box at the bottom of the links that instruct you to reenter your password for any option you select. After reinputting, click the button that says Delete (your account name), and confirm you’re certain.

Below the account deletion page, you’ll see a note from Instagram stating that your data won’t be erased immediately but will be stored by Meta for 30 days. Not to mention, your profile and posts will not be visible on the site.

If you’re completely breaking up with Instagram, don’t forget to remove the app from your phone.

If you’re not planning on logging in back to Instagram, you should delete the app to save yourself extra space.

Restoring your Instagram Account

As was said earlier, you will lose your account if you do not restore it 30 days after it was first deleted.

If the time interval (30 days) elapses, you must create a new account. This is because, when you delete your account, your username will be freed up, and it’s possible someone could’ve utilized it.

Still, the good news is that you can restore your account with your posts and DMs in this 30-day time interval.

To achieve this, just return to Instagram and enter your login details. Immediately, you will get a message stating that you requested your account be deleted, with the date your data will be gone. To keep that from happening, Simply tap the “Keep Account” button to prevent that from happening.

Suspending your Instagram Account for a while.

Suspending your account is the best option if you do not want to delete all photos and messages indelibly, but just remove your account from the public eye.

  1. Log in to Instagram.com, go to your profile >, and tap the Edit Profile button (tap the settings cog to get the option if you’re using a mobile browser).
  2. Then, go to Edit Profile > Temporarily disable my account (an option below).
  3. Choose why you’re suspending your account, then enter your password.

Using the app or the website, simply log back in to re-enable your account.

It’s permitted to suspend your account only once a week. Be careful cause if you log back into your profile mistakenly, your posts will be back online and visible to followers, at least temporarily.
