ChatGPT, Dubbed The “Google Killer,” Has Sparked an AI Chatbot Race

Unless you have been living under a rock, you would have heard about ChatGPT and the buzz surrounding it. AI and chatbots have been around for some time now.  This area received a new push with the public launch of ChatGPT. It is the latest launch of the AI research platform, OpenAI.

The company has launched successful products like DALL-E and DALL.E 2. OpenAI is a non-profit research organization created by Elon Musk. The company develops and promotes friendly AI for the betterment of humanity.

ChatGPT is at its capacity after receiving an overwhelming response. The platform got overloaded in very little time after the API release. The chatbot has raised a code red for Google’s search engine and sparked a race of AI chatbots.   With unlimited internet in every home, it is accessible by anyone.

What is ChatGPT?

ChatGPT is being considered the industry’s next big disrupter. Clear and simple instructions will provide clear information in a simple format. It can explain complex concepts in a way that is easier to understand.

With unlimited internet in every home, it is accessible by anyone. With its hidden capabilities, the application of ChatGPT will be a useful tool for various fields, from customer service to healthcare and education.  Another interesting feature of this bot is that it can even generate creative ideas. This may include creating business strategies to find the perfect gift for Christmas.

ChatGPT is Giving Google A Run for Its Money

Even the job market will get a major hit with this launch. But, the ChatGPT creators have a far more lucrative goal in mind than taking my job. The larger picture is the multibillion-dollar internet search industry. Thus, it can become a “Google Killer”.

OpenAI could re-invent traditional internet search engines with ChatGPT. Google has ruled the search engine industry for decades. It makes a major part of its revenue from its search engine business. Alphabet made $104 billion (£86 billion) in revenue from search alone in 2020. Taking even a small part of that market would be a huge prize.

It is no coincidence, that Microsoft has announced a multi-billion-dollar partnership with OpenAI. This will be a lot beneficial for its search engine, Bing. There is still much room for improvement in ChatGPT. Its release has prompted Google’s management to declare a “code red.” This was equal to Google sounding the fire alarm. Some fear that the company is approaching a point that most Silicon Valley firms fear. The arrival of a massive technology that could upend the business.

Google has announced the release of its own competitor, an AI chatbot called Bard. Google’s LaMDA language learning model is the basis of Bard. Its responses are so human-like that one engineer who worked on it believed it was sentient. The tech behemoth has also announced a $300 million investment in Anthropic. It is a rising competitor to ChatGPT. But Google may be hesitant to use this new technology as a replacement for the online search. It is not suitable for delivering digital ads. These ads account for more than 80% of the company’s revenue last year.

Last summer, Meta launched its own AI chatbot Blenderbot in the United States. Meta owns Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram and is working towards Metaverse. Baidu has announced that an advanced version of its chatbot will be available in March 2023. the Chinese tech giant has named it Ernie.

The Race of The Chatbots – A Race to End of Search Engines?

These new chatbots can blend fiction and fact.  They learn their skills by analyzing massive amounts of data posted on the internet. They disseminate information that can be against women and people of color. They are capable of producing toxic language, including hate speech. All this has the potential to turn people against Google. It can harm the corporate brand it has worked so hard to build over the years.

Newer companies may be more willing to risk complaints in exchange for growth.  Even if Google perfects chatbots, it must address another issue. Will this technology eat into Google’s lucrative search ads? People are less likely to click on advertising links backed by chatbot responses. This takes away the entire human element behind a chatbot.

According to industry experts, Google will have to make a decision. Either redesign its search engine or turn its flagship service into a full-fledged chatbot. Google has been hesitant to distribute its technology like ChatGPT and similar systems. As it can generate false, toxic, and biased information. LaMDA is only available to a small number of people via an experimental app called AI Test Kitchen.

Google understands the responsibility of deploying artificial intelligence. It sees advanced artificial intelligence as a struggle to deploy without endangering users or society. A Google manager acknowledged that smaller companies had fewer concerns. Thus, they are free to release these tools when compared to larger corporations. But Google must enter the fray or the industry will move on without it.
