CBD for Arthritis Pain: Does It Really Work?

Date:

Did you know that 23% of adults in the US have arthritis? Altogether, the medical costs and loss of income due to arthritis are over $300 billion a year.

Recently, more studies have shown promising results for using CBD for arthritis pain. Do you want to know more about how it can help? Keep reading to find out!

What is Arthritis?

The most common type of arthritis is osteoarthritis. It is a degenerative form of arthritis and affects the joint cartilage and bones. Unfortunately, there is no cure for osteoarthritis. Instead, treatment involves pain management and steps to avoid further degeneration.

As you will see in more detail below, CBD can help with pain management. This is because CBD interacts with the system that is responsible for pain signals. In addition, there is some promising research that CBD can alter these pain signals for better management.

The second common form of arthritis is rheumatoid arthritis, an inflammatory type of arthritis. In these forms, the immune system attacks the joints due to an unbalanced inflammatory response.

Again, CBD interacts with the body’s system that is responsible for sending signals to the immune system. While studies are still inconclusive, some promising results point toward the benefits of CBD oil in regards to arthritis.

What is CBD Oil?

CBD, or cannabidiol, is one of the chemical compounds found in the cannabis plant. Unlike THC O, CBD does not produce the psychoactive high that is associated with marijuana.

Instead, CBD interacts with the body without producing the high while providing many similar benefits as THC.

Unfortunately, the research on CBD is lacking; however, some studies have shown that CBD interacts with the endocannabinoid system, or ECS.  It is responsible for the signaling of cells such as the immune system, muscle formation, and the reproductive system.

The ECS helps regulate functions such as sleep, appetite, mood, and memory. Additionally, studies have shown that the ECS is linked to the signaling of chronic pain and inflammation.

As mentioned before, chronic pain and inflammation are symptoms of arthritis. More research is being conducted on CBD, and many experts suggest that CBD is effective in treating these symptoms.

Although, especially for osteoarthritis, it is important to continue taking medication prescribed by your doctor to avoid further degeneration.

The Best CBD for Arthritis Pain

If you are looking to use an oil, a tincture is a highly recommended form of CBD oil. You can drop it under your tongue for about 30 seconds to a minute. You should feel the CBD oil effects as soon as 15 to 45 minutes.

Alternatively, you can also use topical CBD creams on problem areas to target pain directly. Usually, these topicals contain other beneficial items such as menthol or eucalyptus, further alleviating the pain of arthritis.

Is CBD Right for You?

If you are struggling with arthritis, you may want to speak to your doctor to add CBD to treat some of the aches and pains associated with the condition. While studies are inconclusive, CBD for arthritis pain may help you or a loved one to cope with the pain.
