Can we use oil in Ihram?

Date:

We are well-informed of the fact that there are numerous things that are not allowed in the sacred state of Ihram. Clipping nails and applying perfume are also included in the category of Ihram prohibitions. In that case, read this topic to know more information, “Can we use oil in Ihram?”

In the Arabic language, the word Ihram actually means “Haram” (to restrain yourself). Because it is the law of Allah, the person wearing Ihram (also known as Muhrim) has to prevent himself from some of Islam’s permitted and Halal activities.

Even though there is no perfume or aroma in the oil, the pilgrim cannot apply it to their bodies while they are in Ihram unless it is necessary or for medical purposes. If the perfume-containing oil is applied intentionally, the penalty is a sheep. If it is done accidentally, as a precaution, a poor person shall be fed as the penalty.

Applying oil on the body in the state of Ihram

According to many scholars, if a person who wears Ihram clothing (Muhrim) rubs any part of his body with pure oil or vinegar, he should slaughter a goat in expiation.

However, the point of view of some scholars is that if a Muhrim uses unscented oil on his head or beard, he must slaughter a goat, but if he uses it on any other part of his body, there is no penalty. So I suggest you read what we can do in ihram before booking your Umrah package.

Applying oil or cream on the face while in Ihram

Applying perfumed oil or cream while in the state of Ihram is forbidden. But, for medical purposes, unscented coconut or olive oil or an unscented cream can be applied to the face while in Ihram.

Can a woman in Ihram apply olive oil to her hair?

It is not allowed for a woman to apply olive oil to her hair in the sacred state of Ihram. If she does it willfully, the punishment is a sheep or a goat. But if she applies olive oil to her hair unintentionally, as a precaution, a poor person will be fed as a penalty. However, there is no penalty, if she uses it for medical purposes.

Using scented soaps in Ihram

Both men and women who wear Ihram clothing are prohibited from using perfume, including scented soap. Anyone who purposefully uses perfume during Ihram should make Fidyah (ransom, i.e., sacrificial animal). However, if someone applies perfume in violation of this rule or forgets about it, nothing is due to them.

Using toothpaste, unscented soaps and creams in Ihram

Using toothpaste, unscented soap, and lotions when in Ihram is not prohibited by Islamic Sharia. However, while in the Ihram state, it is banned to use scented soaps, lotions, or perfumes.

While in Ihram, pilgrims should avoid using soaps with overpowering scents and instead use unscented soap.

Conclusion

Muslims must enter the sacred state of the Ihram before performing the Hajj or Umrah. A pilgrim must carry out the cleaning rites and dress as previously mentioned to enter this condition. During the sacred state of Ihram, many things become forbidden for pilgrims, such as hunting and applying perfume.

It is not permissible for a pilgrim to apply oil to his body in the state of Ihram, even if it has no scent or fragrance unless it is applied for necessity or treatment.

Note: Mostly people don’t know about the rules and regulations of Umrah. First, you have to read all guidance about Umrah then book your Umrah Packages.
