A horrific act of violence has rocked the village of Koribari in Cumilla’s Muradnagar upazila, where a mother and her two children were brutally hacked to death on Thursday morning—allegedly over a long-standing feud related to drug trade. A fourth victim, another daughter of the woman, is currently in critical condition at the hospital.

Eyewitnesses and local sources report that the family had been at odds with certain individuals in the community due to alleged involvement in narcotics. On Thursday, a heated verbal exchange escalated into a gruesome act of violence in broad daylight. The mob first assaulted the victims and then attacked them with sharp weapons, leaving three dead on the spot.

The deceased have been identified as Rokhsana Akter alias Ruby (53), her son Russel Mia (35), and daughter Jonaki Akter (25). Her elder daughter, Ruma Akter (30), sustained serious injuries and is fighting for her life.

Officer-in-Charge of Bangra Bazar Police Station, Mahfuzur Rahman, said:

“There had been drug-related allegations against the family. The attack appears to be an outcome of that ongoing dispute. Three bodies have been recovered and sent for autopsy. Additional police forces have been deployed to maintain order.”

The massacre has cast a deep shadow of fear and grief over Koribari village. Local residents, though divided in opinion about the family’s past, agree that such brutality cannot be accepted in a civilized society.

“Drugs may be dangerous,” one villager remarked, “but the fire of revenge is even more deadly.”

Human rights activists have condemned the killings, emphasizing that no accusation—true or false—justifies public execution. This barbaric incident serves as a grim reminder that mob justice has no place in a lawful society.
