Black Girl Sunscreen is a brand that believes in advocating for and celebrating women. The brand started a partnership with Florida A&M University (FAMU). Thanks to this partnership, Black Girl Sunscreen will become the first official sponsor of the university’s Women’s Track and Field Team, as well as its Women’s Soccer Team. This partnership is planned to last from 2022 to 2024. The establishment of this partnership aligns with the vision of Black Girl Sunscreen as the brand continues to support the growth and encouragement of women, as well as all people of color.

Shontay Lundy, the founder of Black Girl Sunscreen, believes that education regarding wellness and skincare for people of color has been lacking. As most books, media, and companies focus on catering to the whiter skin tones, the skincare of people of color is often left behind. With this partnership, Black Girl Sunscreen strives to educate athletes on the importance of skincare. Especially, protection of the skin from harmful sun rays. As outdoor athletes spend a lot of time outside, it is essential that they protect their skin with SPF to fight off premature aging and unwanted sun damage to the skin.

With this partnership, Shontay Lundy believes she can educate the athletes from FAMU and help them understand the importance of protecting their skin regularly regardless of their natural skin color.

Lundy also wants to support young women of color who are just at the beginning of their careers. Furthermore, this partnership helps the brand set off on the right note, as this is the first partnership with HBCU.

“We are ecstatic to be partnering with an institution that has high energy, great pride, and a strong sense of community with past and present FAMU students…. One of Black Girl Sunscreen’s many passions is supporting young women who are doing phenomenal things,” said Shontay Lundy.

FAMU’s alumni are full of successful athletic scholars, and Black Girl Sunscreen wants to help more women of color to achieve this success. This way the brand can make a change in the community, while simultaneously educating, and helping young women of color.
