Australian Immigration Program Plan for 2020-21

Australia is one of the finest countries to migrate. If you are someone thinking of going for a migration to Australia, you should know the current Australian immigration program plan.

The Migration program is carefully planned to reach a range of social and financial outcomes. The program is set each year and comes with 160,000 available places in total for 2020-21. The streams that constitute the program are:

  • Skill Stream: This stream is designed for filling the shortage of skills in the labor market, especially in regional Australia, and boosting economic productivity capacity. The Department of Home Affairs has allocated 79,600 available spots for skill stream in 2020-21.
  • Family Stream: This stream is created based on Partner Visa programs to allow Australian citizens to reunite with their families overseas, offering them a pathway to Australian citizenship. The available places for the family stream in 2020-21 are 77,300.
  • Special Eligibility Stream: It is the smallest stream covering visa programs for people of special circumstances, coming with 100 available places in 2020-21. It involves Australian citizens who return to the country after a period away.
  • The estimated available Child places will be almost 3,000 in 2020-21.

Size and Composition of the Program

Every year, the composition and size of the Migration Program get fixed through the Budget process of the Australian Government. The program gets introduced following extensive public discussions with state and territory governments, community and business associations, and the broader public. While designing the program, the Department counts on community viewpoints, international research, fiscal and economic modeling, labor force, and financial forecasts.

For the 2021-22 Migration Program, the Department is receiving submissions till January 29, 2021.
