Anand Kumar has earned fame and great respect by his noble contribution by teaching poor family children and families which are below the poverty line so that those people may have a better future ahead and may change their destiny and contribute for national development.
Biography: Anand Kumar was born on 1st January 1973 in Patna, Bihar. In his childhood Anand studied in a Hindi medium government school, the main reason behind this was his father was a clerk in a Postal department and they belonged to a lower medium class family so it was hard to afford fees for private schooling for Anand. Anand completed his high schooling from Patna High School, Bihar and then he later completed his graduation from B.N College in Patna. Anand also got admission in Cambridge and Sheffield Universities but he could not attend them for further studies because of the death of his father and his financial instability.
While pursuing his graduation Anand submitted papers on number theory and showed his love and skills of the great mathematician and the papers submitted were later also published in the newspaper named Mathematical Spectrum and Mathematical Gazette. In 1992, while his continued studies he formed a club of mathematics known as “Ramanujan School of Mathematics”. Due to his sheer curiousness towards studies and especially Mathematics he used to travel for 6 hours every weekend to Central Library BHU, Varanasi the reason behind his travel was because Patna University did not have the foreign journals in their library.
Career: In the early stage of his career, after his father died Anand’s mother started a small papad shop at his house in which he also used to make deliveries at the evening time for earning extra income. Anand was forced to adopt the offer of class III job due to his family condition and financial crisis. Due to his fondness of teaching mathematics, Anand later converted his mathematics club into a coaching institute to teach students with a normal fee for competitive examinations. For that, he took a room on rent for Rs.500 per month and had only 2 students in the initial stage and then later the count increased till 36 by the end of the year. He used to provide yearly coaching to students with a very lower fee Rs.1000 which was even less than the half of marketplace fees of Rs.6000.
Though his main focus always remained in providing the best coaching to lower economic class students so that he may make them grow better and achieve a good future but still there used to many students who even could not afford that fees. And one day an opportunity struck his door when in the year 2000 a student came up to him and said that he cannot afford the fees but wants to prepare for the IIT-JEE examination and that day Anand decided to sponsor those students who cannot afford to prepare for IIT-JEE exam. So Anand on priority called his brother back from Mumbai and then planned to start a program named ‘Super 30’ 2002. In ‘Super 30’ they used to select top 30 students of best and excellent minds from poor families who cannot afford coaching fees for preparation and gave them free food and accommodation with study materials for a year and provided the best of assistance so that they may clear the examination in their first attempt. The selection of economically backward class students was done on the basis of an examination held every year in May and June after which for the next one year students were prepared hard for the examination. From the year 2008 to 2012, his institute gave three consecutive 30 out of 30 selections which were a major benchmark achieved by any institute ever and since 2003 he taught 450 students out of which 391 students cleared the IIT-JEE examination.

This biography was written by Canada based physiciatristBiju Mathew and with a journalist named Arun Kumar and this book was published in two versions English and Hindi. English version was published by Penguin Random House and the Hindi version was published by PrabhatPrakashan. Anand was even approached by many non-government organizations for financing his ‘Super 30’ program but he always denied that since he wanted to do it himself without any external help which is what attracted people’s eye towards him. In 2017 on the occasion of children’s day he was awarded the ‘RashtriyaBalKalyan’ award by the current President RamnathKovind.
Interesting events of Anand’s life: On July 23, 2018, there was an article on Anand by DainikJagran in which he was alleged for claiming a false success rate of his program and was claimed to be a liar and also told that he was the man who searched only publicity. Even after such allegations Anand never puked a single word on these allegations and never released a list of 26 students being selected out of 30 he always knew he was right and what it meant to him so he does not need to represent it to anyone and probably after some time the truth came in front of everyone after the back to back success of his coaching and that was his reply for those allegations. One of the interesting event about Anand Kumar is after he got famous and his Super 30 program became a benchmark he was attempted to be killed by owners of other coaching institutes due to his coaching making success and beating their coaching down in terms of selection and still he never took any security in his house for his safeguard.
A Life Full of Motivation: Anand has been a motivation for those who want to make their life worth by serving people or doing social service for economically backward sections and bringing them up and making them the grabber of opportunities. Anand has been an inspiration to many people who seek to help people and community but due to less opportunities and financial condition cannot fulfill their dreams as he has stood from the time of his life when he was backed down by his father’s death and economic backwardness but he fought hard and shattered the obstacles and made him a hero for all.
