It is alleged that Mahira Homes collected around 350 crores from approximately 1500 allottees for a project located in Sector-68, but the project was never completed. The said money is supposed to have been used to purchase anonymous properties, luxury cars and jewelry in Haryana and Uttarakhand, as well as has been splurged on Sikandar Singh’s (owner of Mahira Homes) sister’s wedding and his wife’s pageant aspirations.
Sikandar’s wife, Sherry Sikandar Singh, is fond of beauty pageants. In 2023, Sherry participated in a pageant organized by Mrs India Inc where she did not win. It has come to light that in 2024, Sherry Sikandar Singh might have paid in crores to Urmi Mala Baruah, the owner of UMB Pageant, to assign her as a delegate from India and buy the winning title at Mrs Universe 2024. Despite not winning any official national competition, Sherry was given the title of Mrs “Bharat”, which has created a lot of controversies and embarrassment .
Sikandar Singh has been accused of serious financial irregularities and corruption and is currently under Judicial custody and recently his bail was also rejected. It is alleged that the public money has been swindled to secure his wife’s pageant victories. While Sherry herself may not be directly involved in these illegal activities, her association with her husband and the controversy surrounding her wins could tarnish India’s reputation on the international stage.
The recent allegations against Sikandar Singh, the husband of Sherry Sikandar Singh, have cast a dark shadow over Sherry’s impending participation at Mrs Universe 2024 pageant. Given the gravity of the charges, it is imperative to question whether sending Sherry to represent the nation is the right decision.
The beauty pageant industry, like any other competitive field, must uphold the highest standards of fairness, integrity and transparency. Sending a contestant whose husband is embroiled in such serious allegations could undermine the credibility of the Mrs Universe as an organization which celebrates the Most responsible Spouse.
It is time for a transparent and just resolution to this matter. The pageant organizers must take decisive action to address the allegations against Sikandar Singh and Sherry Sikandar Singh and ensure that the pageants remains a platform to create future role models.
