But patience can be more than that. Patience is keeping cold blood even when something doesn’t work as planned. Having the right state of mind even in difficult situations is a skill that separates good leaders from average ones. You might be surprised but this is a skill that can be trained too. You will see that after a few months you will be better at this skill.
Has a new strategic agreement been reached? Publicly acknowledge the work of the colleague who led the negotiations. Did you manage to meet or possibly exceed the sales planned for the quarter? Highlight who were the ones who took their share of this result with their work, who made contact with potential customers, and so on. You may have developed the strategy, but you can’t be there everywhere, you can’t do all the tasks yourself, but you need motivated and energetic colleagues to do that, and you can achieve that by acknowledging their results.
It would be a big mistake on your part as a leader to fail to do this because leaders who smuggle a little humility into their relationships with people are always much more productive.
Generosity is one of the most underrated business strategies. If a colleague has questions, be generous with your time and help her. If anyone might want to ask you for advice, be generous with your knowledge.
