5 Glue Down Cork Flooring Installation Tips

Cork flooring is a great investment for any home. It’s not only durable, but it also has an attractive appearance. Cork flooring can be installed over concrete subfloor to create a smooth and finished look in your home. Here are five tips that will help you install glue down cork flooring in your home!

5 Tips for Glue Down Cork Flooring

Tip #1: Prepare the Subfloor

You should always prepare your subfloor before installing the glue down cork flooring. This will ensure a strong adhesive bond between the cork and concrete. Ensure that your subfloor is clean, dry, level and free of debris or contaminants like dust or residue from old caulking materials. If you have any cracks in your subfloor, they should be repaired with flooring patch compound prior to installation so it can create an even surface for the new cork tiles to rest on top of. Once this has been completed then move onto step two!

Tip #2: Buy Quality Glue For Cork Flooring

First you have to make sure that you choose the right type of glue for cork. For working with cork floors the following is suitable contact cement and wood glue.

You want to make sure that the glue for cork flooring installation meets all of the standards set by the manufacturer, otherwise it will not work correctly and can lead to many problems later on down the road like buckling tiles or loose seams between tiles! Make sure you check with your manufacturer before purchasing any type of product for use during your installation process.

Tip #3: Follow The Grain Direction When Installing Cork Floor Tiles

When installing cork floors in a room where multiple pieces may be used next to each other keep in mind that they should always follow grain direction when laying them out so as not to have an overlapping seam which could cause damage over time due to moisture or other factors. There are several ways in which you can determine the grain direction on your cork flooring tile and many of them will be outlined by the manufacturer so make sure to read their installation instructions!

Tip #4: Keep A Good Supply Of Floor Adhesive On Hand For Glue Down Cork Installation

I cannot stress enough how important it is that you keep a good supply of adhesive on hand for this project as it may take more than one tube depending on room size, number of tiles being used etc., but having too much adhesive isn’t really a bad thing because if any does dry out then just open up another tube and carry right along with the job no problem at all. However, not over apply glue under the tiles as it can cause buckling or a very unprofessional look and feel to your flooring.

Tip #5: Seaming Cork Floor Tiles Is Easy When Done Properly

Another important part of the glue down cork tile installation process is making sure that you properly seam the tiles together when necessary for larger rooms, hallways etc., so be careful not to overlap them but rather butt up against each other in order to prevent any damage such as water seeping through seams ruining both pieces like I said before make sure they are completely dry on both sides prior to laying them out! If done correctly then this should present no problem at all.

It’s time for lunch!
