Technology is an integral tool in business operations. Unfortunately, complex tech systems tend to create occasional IT issues. Your team’s productivity and output come to a halt when these issues arise.
What are the common IT problems you should be aware of? Keep reading so you’re prepared!
Issue #1: Computer (or System) is Running Slow
There are many parts to a computer both hardware & software. Over time, things start to slow down because of regular use. Bloat (heftier programs and requirements) will also cause a slowing system.
Here are some things to try on a personal computer:
- Uninstall unnecessary programs and features
- Delete files, empty the recycling bin, and run a disk defragmentation
- Disable programs from opening/running on startup
- Downgrade graphical/interact elements in the UI
- Scan and remove viruses, malware, and other nasty software
Try to fix tech issues or do upgrades before discarding it and contributing to e-waste. A refresh may be all you need to get systems running like new again. When these efforts don’t work, then certainly explore new hardware and software options.
As for business-wide issues, remote IT support may be the best option. Remote services let you get professional-level services without needing to hire more people on-site. Freelance IT pros or companies like Lenet can offer IT security, monitoring, and resolution services for your budget.
Issue #2: Can’t Connect to the Internet/WiFi
Getting a dreaded ‘no connection’ is a pain now that most of our work is done online.
Try a process of elimination for Net connectivity — start with the simple things to resolve issues:
- Run the network troubleshooter
- Restart the computer and router/access point
- Check for disconnected cables and/or wireless cards
Are you still running into an issue? Try these for complex Net issues:
- Contact your ISP to see if there’s a local outage (and then patiently wait)
- Reset and recycle your computer’s IP/DNS or assign new ones manually
- Check for software conflicts, accidental uninstall, or driver issues
Have a backup plan whenever there are Internet outages whether ISP-level or on-site. Switch over to mobile data via smartphones is a good solution. Or, letting the team bring hardware home and finish projects remotely.
Issue #3: Printer(s) Isn’t Working or Hung Up
Printers are among the most notoriously frustrating pieces of technology. A printer’s issues can stem from the hardware, software, or a combination of the two. Besides a power cycle, you could try one of these solutions:
- Check and remove jammed paper in the printing spool
- Clear the print queue in the OS and restart the print job
- Verify the ink/toner isn’t out and replace it if they are
- Check USB/WiFi connections and reconnect if needed
Are you still getting issues? Look for solutions on one of the many printer forums online. Or, call in a local professional to troubleshoot and fix issues. This may be a good time to consider printer maintenance while at it!
