More than a third of all Americans take vitamins every day and it’s possible to get almost all vitamins our body needs in supplement form. Many people include them in their daily routines in order to strengthen the immune systems and other body functions.
Science is still researching vitamin supplements and how they may help or hinder health. Vitamins are more complicated than they might seem for most people. Here are some interesting facts about vitamins and their impact on human health.
1. Most People Don’t Need Multivitamins
Even if it seems that you get tired quickly and your immunity is weakened, this does not mean that you certainly need to take vitamins. Moreover, daily intake of multivitamins does not reduce the risk of heart disease, stroke, and heart attacks, so there is no reason to take them even as prophylaxis.
2. Change Your Diet Before Taking Vitamins

First of all, try to adjust your diet to get vitamins naturally since they are better absorbed by the body through food. 3. Vitamins From Food Increase Longevity
Your longevity is directly connected with the number of vitamins you get through food or, in the case of vitamin D, through the sun. There was no association with the intake of vitamin supplements with increased longevity.
4. Different Medicines May Have Different Concentration
One of the main problems with vitamin supplements is that they are not subject to strict regulation by the FDA. Studies of popular vitamins show that the number indicated on the label often does not match the true product content, so keep in mind that you can theoretically get less than you need.

According to a 2014 study, women with fibromyalgia can use vitamin D to reduce symptoms. The sample was small and included only 30 women but after 50 weeks of taking vitamin D, their level of pain decreased significantly.
8. Vitamins May Improve Fertility
If you are worried that you cannot conceive a child, try asking your therapist about vitamin D supplements. At the presentation of the European Congress of Endocrinologists in 2017, it was suggested that some testing showed a connection between low levels of vitamin D and fertility in men and women.

A study in 2016 showed that in mice with metabolic syndrome, vitamin D supplements have a positive effect on gut microbiomes. This means that they have decreased susceptibility to type 2 diabetes, stroke and other diseases. It is still unknown whether this effect is also found in people, but a study conducted in 2018 showed that about a third of adult Americans have metabolic syndrome, so even such a discovery can be considered a breakthrough.
10. Vitamin D Helps Fight Sunburn
We get vitamin D by absorbing it through our skin, but a study in 2017 showed that it can also be useful if taken in supplement form shortly after you receive a sunburn. Its anti-inflammatory effect helps reduce swelling and pain, so if you feel that the skin has turned red after long exposure to the sun, apply aloe cream in the affected area and take vitamin D.
