Junior stock markets enter era of the reverse

Reverse takeovers may become the norm on the junior stock markets as the lack of liquidity helps acquiring businesses but prevents IPOs, it has been claimed. Currently the PLUS and AIM markets are blighted by an all-time low in investor confidence as well as a serious lack of activity. However accountancy firm Mazars says that while reverse take-overs may offer little added value in buoyant markets, the opposite is often true when they are liquidity hungry.

A regulator's proposal to give more time to an energy company that wants to drill in the Gulf of St. Lawrence is provoking anger from opponents who say it's high time the federal government intervene to protect the area.

The Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Petroleum Board said Friday it's proposing to grant Corridor Resources a new four-year exploration licence in an area known as Old Harry. Otherwise, the board said there wouldn't be enough time to complete consultations and an environmental assessment before its current licence expires Jan. 14, 2017.

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro said on Sunday that OPEC and non-OPEC countries were close to reaching a deal to stabilize oil markets and that he aimed for a deal to be announced this month.

OPEC members may call an extraordinary meeting to discuss oil prices if they reach consensus at an informal gathering in Algiers this month, OPEC Secretary-General Mohammed Barkindo said during a visit to Algeria, the country's state news agency, APS, reported on Sunday.

At the auto dealerships in southwestern Nova Scotia, it's not unusual for a fisherman to mark the purchase of a new truck by presenting the successful salesperson with a fresh lobster.

Claude Bourgeois, sales manager at Tusket Ford, has been eating a lot of lobster lately.
